Who were your favorite Teachers in K.H.S. ?
Two come immediatly to mind for me.
Mr. Nasello/Biology & Home room- What a nice guy & great teacher. He had a way of teaching that made it fun & interesting.
Miss Cassidy(Mrs.Melvin) /Algebra- Pleasant & nice teacher, had a ton of patience with people like me who just did not get it & took the time to make sure you did get it.
Ed

Ed,

I don't think I can narrow the list to a few names but I know that any list would include "Herr" Schmidt. He not only taught German but he advised clubs as well. He got me to do (constructive) things outside of class. He was also a great role model for me as an aspiring teacher.

Mr. Hayzer (history) and Miss Michelli (Honors math) were most instrumental in prepping me for college. It was actually Mr. Hayzer who suggested Drew Univ. to me in the first place. Good call on his part.

During a fire drill Miss Michelli made the honors math class stick together so that she could continue class in the stadium! The kids who were taking advantage of the break to grab a cigarette looked at us like we were nuts. But I breezed (escaped without visible bruises?) through calculus in college thanks to her efforts.

I remember Mrs. Melvin and she was a very nice lady. I enjoyed her class too.

that's easy..."Pop" (John) Parsons...an Arkansas native...retired in 1947...I thought he was a joke, but I still remember more of his teaching, including a few times he pulled me aside and gave me real fatherly advice...and, Miss Young...a history teacher....she worried about a stutter I had, and gave me a clue to how to cure it, and it worked...I pick these, but don't denigrate most of the rest...Harry

Mr. Nasello was my homeroom teacher and an absolute nut! I had Ms. Cassidy for algebra both years, and thanks to her, I moonlight as a private algebra tutor. I teach kids "her way" and somehow, they seem to get it. I coerced her into being our cheerleading advisor one year and I think we gave her a nervous breakdown. She is definitely a teacher I will never forget.

I attended KHS from 1978 to 1982 and had quite a few favorite teachers. Among them, Al Stewart, biology teacher in Sophmore year. He also ran the Ecology Club called C.U.O.P.
Mr. Hayzer and Mr. Gillepsie who both taught History...Mr. Kennedy who taught English....the list could go on and on. Lots of fond memories from Kearny High and Kearny. Left Kearny in 1991 as did many other people I know.

Could not stand her when I was in her class but, in retrospect, Ms. Van Wort. She introduced me to some great literature - like the Odyssey, Invanhoe, Silas Marner. She was really strict, no nonsense - but knew her stuff. I can't remember too much of the specifics of what I learned in high school - but I do remember her class.
